Dublin Guardians gear up for the inaugural ETPL season with pre-season training camp in Dublin

The Dublin Guardians have begun their preparations for the inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL) with a four-day pre-season training camp in Dublin from August 18–21.

Led by Captain and Mentor R. Ashwin and Head Coach Vikram Rathour, the Guardians’ coaching set-up also includes Ed Joyce as Assistant Coach, Mitch McClenaghan as Bowling Coach and John Mooney as Fielding Coach. The camp will bring the squad and coaching staff together ahead of the season. Alongside preparations for the season and adapting to local conditions, the camp will also focus on strengthening team culture and camaraderie.

The Guardians squad features a strong mix of international and Irish talent, including Vijay Shankar, Josh Little, Harry Tector, George Dockrell, Craig Young, Ben Calitz, and Chris Greaves.

Vikram Rathour, Head Coach, Dublin Guardians, said, “Bringing the squad together in Dublin ahead of our first ETPL season is an important step for us. This camp gives us a valuable opportunity to get to know each other as a team, establish the way we want to play and prepare for the tournament. We have a good mix of experience and young talent in the squad, and I’m looking forward to seeing the group come together and build towards the season.”

Alongside Rathour, the Dublin Guardians’ coaching and support staff includes Ed Joyce as Assistant Coach, Mitch McClenaghan as Bowling Coach, John Mooney as Fielding Coach, V. Vasudevan as Analyst, Ashish Kaushik as Head of Sports Science & Medicine, and Rahul P. as Strength & Conditioning Coach.

John Mooney, Fielding Coach, Dublin Guardians said, “Joining Dublin Guardians is incredibly special for me because it represents the city I’ve always called home. Irish cricket has come a long way, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the next chapter of its journey. To work with a group that shares the ambition of growing the game and helping players reach their potential is something I’m really proud of.”

The inaugural season of ETPL gets underway on August 26, with the opening leg of the competition taking place in Rotterdam, before the tournament moves to Dublin for the second leg. The Guardians will begin their campaign against the Belfast Wolves on August 27 in Rotterdam at Voorburg.

Ajit Ravindran, CEO, Dublin Guardians, said, “The pre-season camp marks the beginning of our journey, ahead of the inaugural edition of the ETPL. Supported by Cricket Leinster, we are looking forward to connecting with local cricketing communities, spending time with some talented players and, most importantly, representing Dublin with pride, while building a franchise that the city can truly call its own.”

The Dublin Guardians, co-owned by former Indian cricket captain and coach Rahul Dravid and an international consortium of investors, will represent Dublin in the inaugural edition of the European T20 Premier League.
